Gerard’s Bistro

Encircled by high end fashion boutiques, Gerard’s Bistro features its own catwalk of Middle Eastern, European and African pieces. The matrix of wood textures and angled lighting, create such a modern and trendy indoor dining atmosphere; contrasting with the white, sunlit outdoor tables with surroundings of hanging vines and stones.

The menu encourages a shared variety of meals between diners, so here was our Sunday lunch collection. Roasted quail stuffed with dates and rose, served with caramelized figs and smoked curd.

Next, was the Murray Cod, Mussels, Oysters, Kishk, Garlic, Sweet Onion and Hazelnut. The fish was deliciously crisp, complemented well by the smoky, creamy flavours of the mussels and oysters, as well as the roasted hazelnuts and sweet onions. A complex flavour, as the strong mussels and oysters were overwhelming for me.

The dish of the day was this beautiful Semi-Cured Spanish Mackerel, Pumpkin Puree, Puffed Grains and Rice Snow. Such pristine slices of tender mackeral laced with pickled pumpkin, a rich smooth pumpkin puree, earthy puffed grains of rice and a delicate snow. The flavours were smoky yet sweet, and the different pumpkin elements brought the dish together so well.

We also had some sides of Roasted Beetroot, Shankleish, Chilli, Hazelnuts, Pomegranate and Lemon Balm.

This Sweet Iranian Rice with Saffron, Sour Cherries, Almonds and Pistachio was such a delicate and sweet dish with the added crunch and roasted nut flavours.

An encore of late night dessert session was also performed. The girls had the Bekaa Wings with Kishk Yoghurt and Rose Petals. The spicy aroma wafting through the air was enough to make us all salvate; and sticky fingers and clean bones spoke adequately.

For me this Smashed Chocolate, Turkish Delight and Pistachio Curd dish was the peak to my meringue. It was a beautiful combination of iced, smooth, rich chocolate with the moorish flavorsome Turkish Delight and the lovely pistachio curd.
