A new bud has sprouted amongst the Gold Coast’s vegetarian food scene. Jack Ate the Beanstalk sits a few shops next to Plantation House Cafe. With a casual candlelit alfresco dining area, serving mostly non-dairy, vegetarian meals, it was nice dinner for Cilantro, Cafe Crawler and I.
Hot dishes included Nachos, Curries and Lasagna; Salads of Falafel, Fennel with Beetroot and Pear; and desserts such as Cheesecakes, Puddings and Tarts.
Cilantro had a combination of the three salads, whilst Cafe Crawler and I both had the Spelt Lasagna of Pumpkin, Peas and Eggplant. The lasagna was rich with sweet vegetables smothered between spelt pasta sheets and herbed passata. The side of fennel salad was refreshing crisp and tangy with it’s thinly sliced fennel, beetroot, pear and lentils.
A pleasant dinner on a new autumn night, and much is to become of this young cafe :)
