Where Vulture Street meets Hardgrave Road, there is a humble corner shop with a rusty sign. Locals know it well, but seek and you shall find – bags of fresh, roasted, raw or salted cashews, peanuts, brazil nuts, macademias; dried apricots, figs; colourful vege chips; fresh nut and wheat flours; dried chickpeas and beans; fresh yoghurts and many many rounded spheres of chocolate coated macademias, almonds and fruit.
Welcome to the treasure trove that is Mick’s Nuts. Open 8am-6pm on the weekdays and 7am-5pm on Saturday, you’ll find all the nuts, seeds and fruit that are at a steal of a price.
Finding a 15min park right outside the shop, I knew I was in luck. As I set foot inside, it was like an Aladdin’s Cave filled with all sorts of nibblies and staples. Eventually I settled on a bag of Fruit and Nut Mix ($12/kg) and a bag of Raw Nut Mix ($20/kg).
