The Hub’s Wok

An urbanised version of a humble Chinese corner eatery and is only a short walk to the nightlife of Fortitude Valley.

We’ve visited here a number of times after a late finish to work – tired and hungry. They’ve got a number of specials I enjoy – Whole Boneless Sweet Sour Fish, Whole Deep-Fried Mud Crabs and fresh Vegetarian Dumplings. Last night we had a vegetarian banquet for our overseas relatives.

Hot and Sour Soup started off the night – streaks of egg, oyster mushrooms, vegetarian ham all in a mushroom broth.

Highlights for the night…

Vegetarian Yong Tofu – crisp fried tofu filled with a soy chewy ‘fishball’ all sautéed with a glistening black bean sauce.

Pumpkin curry – toasted pumpkin smothered with a rich curry sauce (too mild for me :) )

Soy nuggets with stir-fried vegetables – tender bites of textural soy protein with broccoli, beans and carrot with flavours of sweet and salty soy sauce.

The meals aren’t as exciting as other places in the CBD, but for quick and easy meal with a nice alfresco dining area and friendly, accommodating staff – The Hub’s Wok is where to go.
