I love markets. It’s the thrill of discovering new tastes, smells, colours and buzz as you float from stall to stall. It’s the eclectic mix of people, food and art that never ceases to surprise. It’s the authenticity, creativity and genuine product in your hands that you know will be supporting the local community.
Jan Power Markets are one of my favourites, but I shall splurge about them later…
NEW to the coast and just launched last week is the Miami Marketta’s Street Food. Found in the little laneway of Rabbit&Racoon with artistic walls and long tables adds to a very hip feel.
The food-eating team comprised of Jelly, Jo and I and this is just a tiny sample of what’s to offer at the Marketta Street Food.
First up was JR’s Smokehouse Barbecue. Jelly and Jo shared the Pork Ribs with Coleslaw, Potato Salad, Spicy Beans, Homemade Tomato Sauce and Gherkin– impressively sized, hot, succulent and tender…to be eaten without etiquette !
We shared a mixed box of Moroccan Bean Salad, Cajan Veggie Salad and Green with Seeds plus Lentil and Sesame cakes – refreshing mix of bittersweet leaves with the tang of mint and balsamic vegetables in addition to the goodness of beans and chickpeas. The Lentil and Sesame cakes were nicely textural, spicy and nutty.
Pablo’s Paella was delicious – creamy spicy morsels of rice tender but still with a bite, stewed together with pulled meat, fresh peas, crisp chorizo and juicy mussels with sour cream and a lemon wedge.
We finished our night with Frozen Yoghurt – flavours of Strawberry Twist and Coconut with toppings of irresistible Tim Tam pieces, crunchy almonds and juicy strawberry.
A unique market with an artistic edge, friendly foodies everywhere, generous servings and prices, Marketta Street Food has taken Gold Coast food culture to a whole new level :)
