Before entering Elizabeth Arcade across from Brisbane’s Myer Centre, there’s a slim flight of stairs coloured by posters for Yoga classes. Through the glass doors, in a large dining room, is Govinda’s Pure Vegetarian Restaurant.
Tonight Dad and I opted for the Dinner Feast which included Lentil Curry, Rice, Vegetable and Chickpea Korma, Kofta Balls with Homemade Tomato sauce, Green Salad, a Halava Pudding with Custard to finish and a Lemon, Ginger, Mint Drink to cleanse the palate.
The way this feast works, is that it’s an All-You-Can-Eat Buffet, so seconds, thirds..and fourths are welcome. :D There were plenty of other meals available – Lasagne, Quiche, Spinach and Feta Filo, Vegan Desserts…
I was impressed with the Vegetable and Chickpea Korma – a rich, creamy, nutty flavour with hearty vegetables and chickpeas. The salad was light and refreshing with a tangy creamy sauce. The Kofta Balls weren’t as nice as Cardamom Pod’s and the sauce a bit thin. The Halava Pudding was sweet, soft and oozing, but lacking a bit of spice, a bit of orange zest or tart berry.
Under $15, Govinda’s Vegetarian provides a warm and comforting meal, making it one of the best budget eats around Brisbane.
